A documentary for victims, by victims—exposing the UK’s secret family court scandal affecting mothers, fathers, relatives—and always, children.

Behind closed doors, the UK’s multibillion-pound, secretive family courts are enabling long-term emotional and domestic abuse, while others profit from the breakdown of families. In some tragic cases, this has led to devastating outcomes, including loss of life. The very institutions meant to protect our most vulnerable are instead contributing to trauma, broken homes, forced poverty, and stolen childhoods. This is more than just a film. It’s a movement to give voice to those the system has ignored and failed. With over 8 million people affected in the UK alone—and many tragically no longer with us, driven to suicide by a system that offered no protection—this isn’t just a broken system. The failures are so widespread, many now question whether it was ever designed to serve families at all. Our mission: to expose the truth, amplify the voices of victims, and demand justice and reform—for the sake of every child still trapped inside this system.

Help us Bring this Story to the World

This project has been built on the blood, sweat, tears, and courage of so many people — and now, we need your help to finish what we started. We refuse to be silenced by the broken system and mainstream media who profit from it. Major platforms are watching, and independent studios are behind us — but we must first complete this work ourselves, on our terms.

Help us expose the truth, head over to our crowdfunding page  to donate and to watch the longer trailer.

Every donation, share, and message moves us closer to real change. Together, we will make sure the world knows what has been hidden for too long and prevent others going through it. #LoveVLaw

To everyone supporting us now: thank you for believing in this movement. And to those who’ve stood by us from the very beginning — the survivors, the campaigners, the friends, and the families — you are the heartbeat of this project. There are far too many of you to name here, but we’re putting together a proper thank-you page as we speak. Just know this: we thank you, we love you, and yes — you will be credited. Wherever you are in the world, please keep reaching out. This is your story too — and it deserves to be heard. You deserve to be acknowledged: as a survivor, a contributor, researcher, a campaigner, a volunteer — a voice that will not be forgotten.

We Want To Hear Your Stories

Your voice matters. Every story we hear uncovers more layers of the systemic issues plaguing the family court system.

We have already interviewed industry professionals, including lawyers, child safety specialists and a judge, who agree that urgent change is needed. We’ve also supported tens of thousands of parents and now grown children (including one celebrity) who have shared accounts of their abuse and experiences. We now to hear from more of you. Are you an alienated child now over 18? Did you lose contact with a parent against your wishes, even when there were no welfare concerns? Parents: Have you faced challenges with the police failing to protect you or your children, and/or in court, judicial errors, lost contact with your child, or been pressured to take actions you regret such as making false allegations? Litigants: Have you filed complaints with regulatory bodies only to be ignored or dismissed? Have your rights been removed in the courts? Have judges made mistakes?

"I have evidence of serious judicial misconduct — including what appeared to be an undisclosed personal connection between the judge and my ex’s barrister. After the trial, an independent source came forward alleging bribery. I lost everything. This system is not just flawed — it’s dangerous."

“In a landmark ruling, the UK Supreme Court confirmed that judges are entitled to whistleblower protections and ruled that District Judge Claire Gilham had been denied her human rights — proving that even those within the system face punishment for exposing its failings.” — UK Supreme Court

Nawal Houghton - Documentary Presenter

“As a divorce coach working closely with individuals navigating the family court system, I have seen first-hand the emotional devastation, systemic failures, and silencing of victims that this film highlights. I want to be part of this project to help expose the truth, challenge a system that too often protects abusers, and advocate for a future where families—especially children—are genuinely safeguarded, not exploited.”

“There is evidence suggesting that a network of solicitors, CAFCASS officers, psychologists, and court officials — including associations with senior judges — may be involved in practices leading to the disproportionate allocation of family court cases and public legal aid funds. These connections raise serious concerns about conflicts of interest, transparency, and potential misuse of public resources, warranting urgent independent investigation” –  Expert Witness

Statement from the Director & Co–Producer

Thank you for being here. After six years of hearings (60+), appeals (4), ignored reports against agencies (5), judicial complaints (7), and hearing the stories of tens of thousands of other parents, I have discovered that the family court system is not just broken — it appears to be designed this way.

The widespread failure across family courts, police, social services, CAFCASS, CMS, legal professionals, and regulatory bodies suggests systemic collusion, not isolated incompetence. This isn’t just a personal tragedy — it’s a national scandal hiding in plain sight affecting millions.

It’s time to shine a light on this openly and honestly, to stop another child from suffering, and to rebuild the foundation of our nation: our children, our families. — Stephen Carpenter, 2025.

Call for talent

Wherever possible, we aim to work with people who have been directly affected—without compromising on quality. We understand how hard it is to manage work, finances, and everyday life while navigating these systems. I personally lost a dear friend from the film industry who was struggling through a toxic divorce, and I miss him dearly. If you’ve been affected and want to get involved, please reach out.

Execs & Investors

We are now welcoming early Executive Producers and investors to join LOVE v LAW. If you’d like to be part of this project at this pivotal early stage, we’d love to hear from you. “I said to the appeal judge, ‘I’ve been dragged through this system for five years. You’ve ignored clear perjury and judicial misconduct. You’ve allowed unlawful behaviour by a lawyer to go unchallenged. You’ve stopped me from seeing my children, taken my home, ruined my health, and destroyed my business. Do you simply want me silenced by poverty?’ The courtroom was silent. ‘Do you just want me dead?’ The judge said nothing. The hearing ended.” Court Victim (anonymous)

Elliot Grove,
Founder BIFA& Raindance.

“Raindance has made its name championing the whistle blowers and films about social injustice. I guessed that children were at risk due to marital distress, but until I met Stephen I had no idea of the scope and scale of this problem and the opaque way the family courts, their agencies and lawyers deal with this terrible issue is horrendous. I was flabbergasted at the scale and scope of this injustice, and this is just the UK. This film needs all the support you can give.”

Help us finish the film and fight for change.
